Jordan- Jeweller fined JD16,000 for undeclared diamonds

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Customs personnel in Amman on Saturday fined a jewellery store over JD16,000 for failing to declare 100 grammes of diamonds, a Jordan Customs Department (JCD) official said. Acting on a tip, the department discovered the violation by inspecting the jeweller's accounting, the official told The Jordan Times. "When our agents compared the billing books of the shop and the customs declaration, we discovered the discrepancy," the source explained. The shop owner paid JD16,630 in fines and customs and kept the diamonds. Also on Saturday, the official said, agents seized seven dismantled cranes worth around JD48,900 that had been brought into the Kingdom. The official would not elaborate on how the cranes entered the country or where they were destined, but said the owner paid JD27,971 in fines.
