Iran's IRGC warns again of blocking oil shipments via Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Ali Fadavi, naval commander in Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned of executing a complete blockade on oil shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz if Iran's security is threatened, Reuters reported. Fadavi was quoted by Iran's Fars News Agency as saying that Tehran will strengthen its military presence in international waters, adding that the US is risking of causing very bad consequences if it doesn't obey international laws and the IRGC's warnings. He also confirmed IRGC's ability to completely control the Strait of Hormuz since the (Iran-Iraq) war and not allow even a single drop of oil to pass through. Fadavi's statement comes as tensions between the Islamic Republic and west heat up over its nuclear programme. Iran has repeatedly threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz shipping channel, through which 40 percent of the world's sea-borne oil exports pass, as countermeasure to sanctions placed on its crude exports by Western powers.
