Kuwait- GID eyes ways to regulate issuance of 'visit visas' during Ramadan


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The General Immigration Department is looking into ways how to regulate the issuance of visit visas for expatriates â€" Arabs and Asians â€" particularly the months preceding the holy month of Ramadan, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily quoting immigration sources say expatriates exploit the month of Ramadan to come to Kuwait to beg for alms. The daily also said the Interior Ministry has noted a record rise in visit visa applications during this time of the year. The sources said the department has turned down requests for visit visas from several expatriates, after the department discovered some of these people who had arrived into the country earlier on visit visas were caught for begging for alms. The sources went on to say the department has put in place a plan how to combat the begging menace during the holy month in cooperation with other authorities. The sources disclosed the department will put under surveillance places such as the mosques, public utilities and commercial malls to put an end to this phenomenon. The daily added the department will also target hawkers.
