Kuwait Airways to ground several old planes

(MENAFN) Kuwait Airways' Corp. (KAC) chief, Salem Al Othaina, stated that the carrier will ground a number of its ageing planes due to frequent technical problems, reported The Peninsula. Al Othaina said that the state-owned carrier will ground between 3 and 5 planes at first, and then it will consider grounding more planes. Constant malfunctions in several planes affected safety conditions, prompting the carrier to take this decision In January 2008, the country's parliament endorsed a law to privatize the carrier, however, in October; the government rejected the plan and consented to restructure the carrier instead, as private buyers submitted a low price. It is worth noting that last week, a KAC flight operated by an Airbus A300 with 186 passengers on board, heading from Kuwait to Jeddah, escaped disaster after one of its engines burst and a second stopped working, forcing the plane to made an emergency landing in the city of Madina.
