Bahrain set to undergo causeway expansion plans


(MENAFN) Bahrain is set to execute plans to expand the capacity of the King Fahd Causeway which connects the Gulf state with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain New Agency reported. The expansion plans were originally announced in 2010, comprising of increasing the causeway departure lanes to 17 from 10 currently, and the number of arrival lanes to 18 from 13 on both sides at the cost of USD5 million. Director General of King Fahd Causeway Authority Badr Al Otaishan explained that about 39,304 passengers use the 25km causeway on daily basis. Saudi Arabia and Bahrain enjoy close ties, and Saudi citizens regularly travel across the causeway to Gulf island Kingdom on weekends.
