Greece's gov't plans to attract investments, encourage privatizations

(MENAFN) Greek finance minister, Yannis Stournaras, stated that the government's top priority is to draw investments and encourage privatizations, reported AP. Stournaras said that through privatization, the Greek economy will be able to get out of its recession and return back to growth. The main projects included in the privatization program are the state natural gas, water and betting firms, the development of the previous Athens airport, other airports, yacht marinas, the state railways and the sale and leaseback of 28 state properties. He added that the privatization of Public Power Corporation will come later. On the other hand, Alexis Tsipras, the leader of the country's main opposition party accused the government of planning to sell Greece's resources and public firms on the cheap; adding that those who would buy state property will likely lose all their money and face criminal charges. Tsipras, the head of the Coalition of the Radical Left party (Syriza), said that a Greek government must repair the economic situation through taxing the rich and target tax evaders.
