Jordan to negotiate with AFD over USD184m loan

(MENAFN) Jordan is set to negotiate with France over getting a USD184 million loan, as the Kingdom seeks to fill its huge fiscal deficit, state news agency Petra reported. Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jafar Hassan will hold negotiations with the French Development Agency (AFD), expected to conclude by July-end. The ministry said it will use the loan to help cut widening fiscal deficit and support the Kingdom's efforts to develop and enhance the energy sector, Petra said. In May, Minister of Finance Suleiman Al Hafez said Jordan's fiscal deficit could hit USD4 billion this year if economic conditions in the country do not improve, the Jordan Times reported. Petra quoted Hassan as saying that the EU is expected to increase aid to the struggling Kingdom within the aid-package presented to south Mediterranean countries. Jordan's share of the aid accounts for USD687 million from 2007 to 2013.
