11 Libyan police trainees deported from Jordan after brawl

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Eleven Libyan police officers receiving training at the Jordanian International Police Training Centre (JIPTC) were deported to Libya after an investigation proved their involvement in a brawl at the centre, police officials said. A fight between a group of Libyan trainees erupted at the centre on July 1, and a section of the trainees' dormitory was burnt as a result. "Investigations proved that the 11 were involved in the brawl and were sent back home recently as stipulated in the centre's regulations," Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Lt. Col. Mohammad Khatib said. The trainees arrived in the Kingdom in April as the first of four batches of Libyan police officers to receive training at the JIPTC. The 2,500 Libyan police personnel are among 10,000 expected to come to Jordan for training over the next two years. The training is part of a memorandum that was signed earlier this year between the PSD and the Libyan interior ministry and focuses on conducting police duties, investigations and field work. The JIPTC, which was established in 2003, has trained over 53,000 Iraqi police officers and 8,000 Palestinian police and national security officers, along with trainees from other Arab countries, according to the PSD.
