UAE- Woman accused of forging divorce status declaration

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An Emirati woman has been referred to the criminal court by the public prosecution allegedly for forging an official document to get the advantage of the social aid for divorced women. According to the prosecution, the 33-year-old woman moved to the Attestation Section at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department earlier this year to issue a marital status declaration indicating that she has not remarried since her first divorce in 2004. However, the attestation officers found out that the woman had a second divorce in 2010. The attestation officers also discovered that the woman managed to obtain a false divorce status declaration so that she could take the advantage of the social aid given by the Ministry of Social Affairs. The woman confessed to the forgery charge before the Public Prosecution. She admitted that she did not know the two witnesses who signed the false declaration. The two witnesses testified before the prosecution that they had no previous knowledge about the accused and they acted as witnesses upon the request of her father. When the prosecution contacted the Department of Social Security at the Ministry of Social Affairs, the ministry said the accused woman had already applied for a social assistance under the category of a divorced woman below 35 years, but the woman had not completed the remaining procedures and thus could not benefit from the social aid because she had to fulfill some other procedures.
