(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dr Mohammed Mattar Al Kaabi, Director-General of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GAIAE), has stated that the authority has referred a copy of the Holy Quran, found selling in the country without permission, to the legal committee affiliated to the GAIAE's Research Department for review and to subsequently announce if it is the correct version.
Several copies of the Quran have been seized by the authority. Al Kaabi said the copies did not come into the country through the Customs Department, but were brought in illegally.
He further clarified that if the copies had been brought into the country legally through the customs, the department would have sent a copy to the GAIAE to get it examined and then get the cargo cleared. Al Kaabi has warned that if it is proved that any publication house, local or foreign, is circulating copies of the Holy Quran with mistakes, the copies will be seized from the market, and the publishing house will be brought to justice.
Though the company selling the copies in the local market has ceased selling copies until further notice, copies of the Quran are being sold by vendors using smart phones.
