Jordan- Tarawneh briefs US congressional aides on economic challenges


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh on Wednesday met with a delegation of US congressional aides, who are on a visit to the Kingdom to become acquainted with Jordan's political, economic and social conditions. Tarawneh outlined the steps taken by the government to deal with the Kingdom's economic challenges. He noted that the disruption in Egyptian gas supplies and the instability in the region have negatively affected the Kingdom's economy, particularly the transport and tourism sectors. Members of the delegation praised Jordan's efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region and commended the Kingdom's reform measures. Meanwhile, in a meeting with Palestinian Minister of Economy Jawad Naji on Wednesday, Tarawneh stressed Jordan's full support for the Palestinian people and their rights to establish their own independent state. He noted that Jordan will continue to support the Palestinian Authority in raising Palestinian exports to Arab countries and increasing economic growth rates to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. Talks also covered means to enhance economic and commercial ties between Jordan and the Palestinian Authority. Naji briefed the premier on the status of the Palestinian economy and the challenges facing it. He also invited the Jordanian-Palestinian higher committee to hold its meetings in Ramallah.
