US- Footprint Power buys Salem Harbor Power Station

(MENAFN) New Jersey-based Footprint Power LLC stated that it has acquired the 60-year-old Salem Harbor Power Station from Dominion Energy Inc., reported AP. The company added that it will replace the coal-fired power station with a natural gas-fired plant that will occupy 1-third of the 63-acre site, whereas the rest will be used for commercial and industrial development. Carole Brennan, Footprint's spokeswoman, said that the new plant's generation capacity will be less than 700 megawatts, compared with 745-megawatt for the current coal- and oil-fired station, which at its peak could power 745,000 homes. It is worth noting that the new plant will cut carbon emissions, according to Footprint, which added that the facility's ability to quickly start up and stop can help develop new renewable power.
