Al Jazeera Airways eyes bigger share of Egypt route

(MENAFN) Low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways is looking to clinch a bigger share in the Egyptian market, as its performance in the GCC remains low facing stiff completion from regional rivals, Arabian Business reported. The airline was the main carrier between Kuwait and the five Egyptian cities it served, according to Kuwait's Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA). April data showed that Al Jazeera captured a 35 percent market share on the Kuwait-Alexandria route, a 47 percent market share on the Kuwait-Assiut route, a 64 percent on the Kuwait-Luxor route, a 56 percent market share on the Kuwait-Sharm El Sheikh route, and 39 percent market share on the Kuwait-Sohag route. The airline also increased its market share in Cairo on the Kuwait-Cairo route to 26 percent. The DGCA data also showed the carrier had much market share in some GCC routes, operating a 12 percent market share on the Kuwait-Bahrain route and a 16 percent share on the Kuwait-Dubai route.
