US court bans sales of Samsung's Galaxy Nexus

(MENAFN) The US District Court of Northern California banned sales of Samsung's Galaxy Nexus smartphone in the US as Apple claims the device infringes its patents, reported AP. Judge Lucy Koh said Friday that Samsung Electronics Co. is ordered to stop sales of the device, which infringes 4 Apple patents, including a patent used in the "Siri" voice-activated assistance available in the iPhone 4S. She added that the sales ban in the US will be effective once Apple posts the USD96 million bond; an amount she ordered the US company to post as an estimated damage sustained by Samsung from the impermanent sales bar, in case Apple loses the later trial, in 2014. On Tuesday, Koh also ordered Samsung to temporarily halt sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in the US, due to claims by Apple that it infringes its patents. It is worth noting that as Samsung and Google co-developed the Galaxy Nexus, at the current time, the two companies are working closely to resolve the matter, since the patent in question concerns Google's unified search function.
