RIM incurs USD518m Q1 loss

(MENAFN) Research In Motion's Ltd. (RIM) CEO, Thorsten Heins, stated that the company incurred a USD518 million loss in the first quarter, compared with a USD695 million profit in last year's same period, reported AP. Heins added that the BlackBerry maker, which is slashing 5,000 jobs, posted a USD2.8 billion revenue, a plunge of 43 percent from a year earlier, also below the USD3.1 billion forecast. During the quarter, which ended June 2, the Canadian firm sold 7.8 million BlackBerry devices, compared with 13.2 million in the previous year, representing a drop of 41 percent. It is worth noting that RIM decided to postpone the launch of its new phone operating system, BlackBerry 10, to 2013's first quarter.
