Cyprus may need financial help as well

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Finance Minister Maria Fekter says that she also expects Cyprus to be asking the Eurozone for financial aid "shortly". Cyprus had "signalled" that it would be making a formal request soon, said Fekter after the EU Council of Finance Ministers in Luxemburg on Friday. The finance minister also repeated that Spain would be officially requesting financial aid in the near future. After a meeting of the EU finance ministers on Friday, Spanish economics minister Luis de Guindos said that Spain would be filing the formal request for financial help on Monday. Spain recently yielded to international pressure and agreed to come under the euro rescue umbrella. The finance ministers of the Eurozone had agreed at the time that the country was to receive up to 100 billion euros to solve its banking crisis.
