(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Police on Monday said they were questioning two men who reportedly confessed to murdering a taxi driver last Wednesday in the Wadi Heidan area in Madaba.

The victim, Sami Mayayah, was last seen on Wednesday in Madaba, 30 kilometers southwest of Amman, and his family reported him missing that day according to police officials.

The 37-year-old victim's body was found four days later dumped in the Wadi Heidan area, while his taxi was discovered in a deserted area in Madaba two days after his disappearance.

"We found traces of blood in the vehicle and when we conducted a DNA test, we concluded that it belonged to the victim," Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Mohammad Khatib said.

The police official added that an intense investigation led them to a suspect and "when we questioned him he confessed to luring the victim, with another friend, to a deserted area where they shot him to death."

"We still do not have a motive for this murder and are questioning both men to determine the reason," he told The Jordan Times.

The suspects are aged 17 and 18, according to Khatib.

Also on Monday, police said they arrested a woman who allegedly stole dozens of women's purses from beauty and hair dressing salons in several neighbourhoods of Amman.

The suspect, who was not identified by officials, would enter these premises, snatch a purse when no one was looking and disappear.

"We formed a special team that monitored these salons in the area where the robberies were taking place and we eventually arrested the woman," a second police official said.

Upon questioning the woman, she confessed to "conducting various robberies", he added.

"When we searched her home we found 16 purses and 20 wallets along with other documents and identification cards belonging to different women," the official said, noting that the suspect had a criminal record and was wanted in various cases.

She was referred to the criminal prosecutor for further questioning, he added.
