(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) A 24-year-old man allegedly raped a woman after kidnapping her with the use of a knife, a court heard on Monday.

The Emirati jobless man allegedly threatened to kill his compatriot, 29, with a knife if she did not ride with him. He faced charges of kidnap and rape in the Court of First Instance.

The complainant, an employee, told the prosecutor that she had an exam at a school in Al Hamriyah on that day in December last year when the defendant rode in and asked her to ride with him. But she told him that she would see him after finishing her exam. It was about 4pm.

He came back shortly in his car and intercepted her way as she was about to call her husband. He was angry and she rode with him as she was scared.

He snatched her phone and claimed that he was taking her to his parents. But he drove very fast on Dubai-Al Ain Road. She asked him to drop her but he refused and slapped her on her face as she was crying.

He reached Al Ain where he stopped at a hotel.

His friends were there and had booked a room for him. He asked her to step out of the car with him saying he wanted to talk to her. He was nervous. They stepped out and she did not try to run away because she was scared as his friends were around.

However, she tried to escape through the room window but he stopped her.

In the meantime, her mother and sisters called on the defendant's mobile as they knew she was with him. The defendant had called the complainant's sister earlier and said he would return her.

He then turned the lights off and raped her.

On the way back, she sped away in his car when he stopped and stepped out at a petrol station to buy water. She called her husband using a motorist's mobile phone and then headed back to her sister in Dubai. She filed a complaint at the Muraqqabat Police Station.

The complainant's sister, a 33-year-old stateless, said that the defendant had proposed her sister months before the incident, but was turned down. He kept on calling and sending her text messages on her mobile phone crying about his love for her sister even after the latter's marriage to another man.

The complainant's husband said that he went to pick up his wife on that day but she had already headed back to Dubai.

He quoted his wife as saying that the defendant kidnapped her to force her husband to divorce her. He also said that he got a phone call from the defendant who told him to return his car.

The defendant admitted in the investigation that he had sex with the complainant.
