Top Arab MP raps world for inaction versus Syria massacres

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Arab Parliament Speaker Ali Al-Deqbasi blasted here Saturday international organizations for failing to take action against massacres in Syria. Al-Deqbasi's criticism came in a letter sent to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and all international humanitarian organizations as well as UNSC parliament speakers. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Arab Parliament Office meetings at the Arab League, he said his message had focused on "world acquiescence that made the Syrian regime continue with their crimes". In his message, he urged the UN chief to necessarily refer crimes and massacres committed by the Syrian regime against the Syrian people to International Criminal Court. He also called on him to seek stiffer political and economic sanctions against the Syrian regime and to use every possible means to save the Syrian people. Al-Deqbasi urged international organizations to recognize the Syrian National Council (SNC) as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. Furthermore, he called on the Russian and Chinese parliaments to urge their governments to stop supporting the Syrian regime and to take the side of the Syrian people instead. Meanwhile, he said, the Arab Parliament Office will continue its meetings on Sunday to put the final touches on shifting from a transitional parliament into a permanent one.
