UAE- Theft from charity box: One held


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Police have arrested a UAE national for alleged theft of money from a charity donation box. Major Ahmed Thani bin Ghalita, Director of Anti-Crime Department, said the department has arrested the suspect, referred to as H.S, for stealing charity donations revenues. He admitted to breaking the charity donation box of Dar Al Ber Society at Uptown Mirdiff Mall. Bin Ghalita said the command room of the Dubai Police received information on the theft and Criminal Investigation Department officials and forensic experts rushed to the site. When reviewing the closed circuit cameras, the police found that the suspect had broken the box, took the money and ran away. The police launched a search and arrested the suspect on the second day. H.S initially denied the act, but later he confessed to the crime. In another case an Ethiopian visitor was arrested for allegedly robbing a man of more than Dh50,000. Bin Ghalita said that the police were informed of a robbery incident near a money exchange centre in the Naif area and a team of officials rushed to the scene. The Indian victim told the police that he withdrew an amount of US$13,870 from a money exchange and changed it to Dh50,903. He put the money in the pocket of his pants and went out. He was surprised when the suspect kicked him to the ground. When he got up he noticed that the money and the suspect were gone. A police motorcyclist chased the suspect and arrested him along with another Ethiopian suspect. Both suspects were referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
