Arab League meets to establish structures for Arab Customs Union


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 22nd meeting of the Committee of the Arab Customs Union kicked off here on Wednesday at the Secretariat General of the League of Arab States headquarters, and was presided by Egypt and participated by experts and representatives of customs services in Arab states. In press statements, Tamer Abdulaziz, head of the meeting, director of regional agreements at Egypt's Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said that this committee is concerned mainly with preparations and taking necessary measures to establish the groundwork for the Union of the Arab Customs in accordance with political and economic resolutions and recommendations of previous Arab summits. Abdulaziz stressed importance of this meeting since it discusses several seminal issues, including the special study on ways of distributing customs outcomes among member states under the framework of the Union of the Arab Customs. He noted that participants in this meeting decided to include some issues into the study in order to fully benefit from them, pointing out that they have also agreed on importance of establishing a road map for the committees' work in order to review what has been accomplished in the past.
