US- Gasco receives green light for eastern Utah gas drilling

(MENAFN) Gasco Energy's Inc. president and CEO, W. King Grant, announced that the company received the US Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) approval to drill for natural gas in eastern Utah, reported AP. Grant said that the Denver-based firm will drill 1,298 wells, on 575 drill pads set back from the high cliffs of Desolation Canyon. He added that the approval took 8 years, with contribution from the US Fish & Wildlife Service, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Advisory Council for Historic Preservation, an independent federal agency that supervises Desolation Canyon's status as a National Historic Landmark. Moreover, the BLM said that drilled wells should be no closer than 5 miles to the Green River, and the bureau has the authority to withhold or modify conditions for drilling at each site. It is worth noting that the BLM is studying other gas-drilling projects for eastern Utah.
