(MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) is participating in the 9th Annual Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE 2012), which is being held at China National Convention Centre (CNCC) in Beijing between 15 - 17 June, within the Sharjah Government stand which is organized by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.

Shurooq's participation in BITE 2012 forms part of a weeklong visit to Beijing and Hong Kong during which it is conducting a series of meetings and discussions with various representatives from the tourism, business and investment sectors, as well as a number of governmental authorities in both China and Hong Kong.

Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Chief Operating Officer commented on the Authority's presence at BITE saying, "Beijing International Tourism Expo is one of the most important B2B tourism platforms in the Far East and Worldwide. The Chinese tourism sector is one of the fastest growing in the world and therefore a sector that is of great interest to Sharjah's burgeoning tourism industry".

The number of Chinese tourists to the UAE have been steadily increasing, with Sharjah specifically witnessing a huge increase over the past number of years. In 2011 the volume of trade between China and the UAE stood at 35 billion, with the Eurozone facing numerous challenges, trade and investment between the UAE and China is set to rise significantly.

Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer added, "We have a highly exciting portfolio of new projects on offer for our participation in this ninth edition of BITE, including the completed Al Majaz Waterfront, the ongoing project Heart of Sharjah which is the largest tourism and heritage project in the region, the newly unveiled The Chedi Khorfakkan Resort in addition to our most ambitious project to date, the three phase Kalba Eco-tourism Project which is expected to attract the interest of the Chinese market.

Through its presence at BITE 2012 Shurooq is aiming to highlight both its existing projects and announce upcoming developments and enterprises designed to attract world wide attention to Sharjah and its various attractions, further developing the Emirate's tourism industry and establishing its place as a global tourist destination.

"Our continued participation at major international events and platforms dedicated to investment and tourism such as BITE is directly in line with our strategy to promote Sharjah as a leading investment and tourist destination in the GCC region and world," Al Qaseer added.

Shurooq also has several meetings scheduled with members of other authorities, delegations, hoteliers, representatives of travel agencies and investors to explore prospects of cooperation and to introduce the incredible developments taking place in the Sharjah's tourism industry, which is making tourism a highly promising economic sector for both visitors and potential investors.
