Qatar's Al Jazeera agrees to broadcast English T20


(MENAFN) Qatar's Al Jazeera, Middle East's to news network, said it inked a deal with ESPN Star Sports, the Asian media rights partner of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), to broadcast the Friends Life Twenty20 (T20) tournament this summer, Arabian Business reported. The announcement comes just hours after Al Jazeera reportedly missed out on rights to broadcast coverage of the English Premier League. The deal represents the first time Al Jazeera Sport has broadcast a cricketing event to its TV audience across the Arab world. Al Jazeera Sports will lively cover 25 matches from the domestic English T20 league. ESPN Star Sports recently renewed licenses for the ECB broadcast rights throughout the Middle East-North Africa region and Asia for USD200 million. The licenses expire in 2019.
