Jordan- Refugee camp leaders reject 'political manipulation'

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Heads of Palestinian refugee camp committees on Wednesday signed a statement in which they rejected attempts by political powers to "manipulate'' the camps to serve their own agendas, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. In the statement, which they signed in the presence of Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs Mahmoud Aqrabawi, they rejected "all calls for and attempts to manipulate the camps for their own interests at the expense of the country's stability, security and achievements", stressing their support for the reform process under way in the Kingdom and satisfaction over the services camps receive from the government. In an apparent reference to the Muslim Brotherhood, the camp leaders were quoted by Petra as saying they had "noticed that certain parties and other powers with suspicious agendas are working hard to take advantage of camp residents to serve their own interests", stressing that these attempts are "exposed and would fool no one". The Brotherhood, which, according to observers derives much of its popularity from refugee camps and Jordanians of Palestinian origin, has recently staged a rally in Al Hussein Refugee Camp to protest price hikes and call for accelerated reforms. Observers saw the move as a tactic to pressure the government into compromises in its relationship with the largest opposition group.
