Jordan- Senators discuss gas agreement

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) The Senate on Tuesday discussed the 2010 draft gas exploration agreement signed between the government, the National Petroleum Company and BP Exploration Operating Company Limited, which was endorsed by the Lower House on May 31. During a session headed by Senate President Taher Masri, senators were briefed on the agreement by Jordan Geologists Association President Bahjat Odwan, who described the deal as fair and in service of the country's interests, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. On June 9, the Senate Financial and Economic Affairs Committee approved the draft agreement as referred from the Chamber of Deputies. Amman Deputy Salah Al-Din Sabra is leading a move to terminate the draft agreement, which he has described as an "unfair and shameless selling of the country's assets". Also on Tuesday, the Jordan Engineers Association organised a brainstorming session on the draft agreement, Petra reported.
