UAE investors invited to explore Tanzanian oil, gas

(MENAFN) Tanzanian President, Jakaya Kikwete, encouraged UAE investors to explore oil and gas in the African country, following recent gas findings in the southern region, reported Arab News. The president, who met a delegation representing several UAE firms, added that so far, Tanzania has given licenses to at least 18 foreign firms to explore energy reserves, both offshore and onshore. He said that last month, UK's gas producer BG Group and explorer Ophir Energy discovered gas off the coast, moreover, in February, Norwegian oil and gas firm Statoil had found natural gas offshore. It is worth noting that in September, the Tanzanian government inked a USD1 billion loan deal with China to set up a 532-km gas pipeline from the south of the country to Dar es Salaam, its commercial capital.
