(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Police on Wednesday said they had arrested a man who reportedly attempted to kill his wife and stabbed a policeman while resisting arrest in Ruseifa.
The suspect, who was not identified by officials, allegedly had a fight with his wife and struck her repeatedly in the head with the butt of a gun.
"The woman sought refuge at her neighbour's house and called the authorities," Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Lt. Col. Mohammad Khatib said.
"When a unit arrived at the house, the man refused to turn himself in, so the officers forced their way into the house," Khatib described.
The suspect attacked one police officer with a knife, slightly injuring him in the head and arm.
"The woman and the officer are both in good condition," the PSD official said.
The suspect was referred to the criminal court prosecutor for questioning.
Also Wednesday, police said they were investigating the death of a teenage girl in Amman.
"The mother found her daughter hanging from the ceiling of her room and called an ambulance," an official source told The Jordan Times.
The 13-year-old was rushed to hospital in an ambulance but died on the way, the official added.
"We are investigating the incident but foul play has been ruled out," the official added without further elaboration.
