Dubai fines retailers for price rule violations

(MENAFN) Many, if not most of the retailers in Dubai were disregarding the consumer protection law by manipulating sales, reported the Gulf News. False discounts were being advertised and offered in stores. The Department of Economic Development (DED) has recently fined retailers amounts up to USD 68,049 and confiscated some 800 products from shops violating the laws. Retailers have to acquire approval from the DED for discount and sales campaigns, and unethical practices like selling defective products, overcharging and failure to strictly follow the law will be dealt with by fines, product removal, or closing down the store.
