UAE- Teddy bear stuffed with tramadol


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) It wasn't child's play as a teddy bear stuffed with banned drugs landed a 30-year-old Egyptian in police custody. The car which the Egyptian was driving overturned on Al Ainâ€"Dubai road at 10pm on Wednesday last week. The man, his wife and 20-day-old child were helped to safety by passers-by. But the woman held the teddy bear carefully and asked a man on the road to hold the toy when police reached the scene. She allegedly gave her phone number to the man before being rushed to hospital. Police said the man's suspicions were aroused when he found a tablet inside the toy. He handed it over to the police and they found 1,500 tramadol pills stuffed in the toy. On interrogation, the Egyptian's wife admitted that her husband used the substance when he lost control over the vehicle. The man told the police that the tramadol was prescribed to him in Egypt and that he would bring medical prescription from there.But the police referred him to the Dubai Public Prosecution on charges of consuming drug. Tramadol was recently added to the banned narcotics list in the UAE and users can get four years in jail.
