Abu Dhabi warns 26 used car dealers for not moving to Motor World

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi has issued strict warnings to 26 used cars showrooms doing business on Airport road for not relocating their business to Motor World built in Al Shamekha district, in the outskirts of the capital. The warnings have been issued after deadline for the relocation expired on May 31. The department ordered the violators to sign lease contracts with the Motor World in order to vacate the area, which had been one of the reasons behind traffic bottlenecks in the city. The department made surprise raids last Saturday on the Airport road area, known for used cars business only to find out 26 violators ignoring the order by not relocating their business. They could not produce the lease agreements with the Motor World, to show their intention of moving their business. Instructions were issued to all used car showrooms in the city to move from the area to the new purpose Ðbuilt market otherwise their trade licenses would not be renewed, said Mohamed Munif Al Mansouri, acting executive director of commercial affairs at DED. He directed the violators to reserve their spaces in the new used car market immediately. For those who don't want to move to Motor World, Al Mansouri also offered options including the change in nature of current business to trade in trucks and buses for which they can move to Musaffah industrial zone or to any other commercial activity only after the showroom's trade license is suspended for two years, owners vacate the current location and remove the neon sign and hoardings they have put up there. He urged the residents interested in selling and purchasing second hand cars to go to Motor World and discourage business activity taking place on the airport road. Al Mansouri appreciated those business owners who relocated in Al Shamekha and helped the authorities in improving the outlook of the capital city. Aldar Properties which has developed the Motor World said it has provided all the necessary services required for the used car business. The Motor World which had the capacity of 177 car showrooms have already been leased out showing strong response from the second hand car sellers. Motor World, which is located near the Abu Dhabi International Airport in Al Shamekha district, is spread on three million square metres. The new market for used cars will provide a parking facility for over 2700 cars, something that will ease the current traffic jams in Abu Dhabi.
