UAE- DCL of Dubai Municipality and DOW sign Service Level Agreement


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), a division of Dubai Municipality and Dow Chemical Company (DOW) has signed Service Level Agreement (SLA) to co-operate on initiatives that enhance sustainable building '&' construction in Dubai, through joint research programs, trainings and technical support, said sources with DM. As part of the SLA, Dow will cooperate with DCL to provide technical assistance in the areas of Interior Air Quality and Energy Efficiency, with the aim to develop standards and test methods for waterborne, Volatile Organic Compound (VOC)-free and formaldehyde-abatement coatings, as well as reflective roof coatings and Exterior Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICs). Dow and DCL will also collaborate on R'&'D trainings, joint studies and technical workshops to build industry awareness on sustainability. Engineer Hawa Abdullah Bastaki, Director, Dubai Central Laboratory and Dr. Ilham Kadri, General Manager, Dow Advanced Materials Division (AMD), Middle East '&' Africa, signed on SLA representing both sides. Engineer Ali Elian, Head of Engineering Materials Laboratory Section, and other DCL and Dubai Municipality officials, as well as global and regional business leaders of Dow, including Dr William E. Jackson, Global R'&'D Director for Dow Building and Construction attended the program. "Dubai Municipality has great interest in joining hands with industries like Dow, which is actively involved in boosting sustainability by improving products" said Engr. Hawa after signing the SLA. "DM has been keen on developing new ideas and adopting methods that boost up its efforts to enhance Green Buildings Project", she added. Engr. Hawa stressed the importance of using solar energy and said DCL has taken all arrangements to certify solar water heater systems which is considered to be one step forward in fulfilling the dream of Green Buildings. "We are pleased and honoured by joining with the esteemed Dubai Central Laboratory to address the growing area of sustainable practices and regulations in Dubai's building '&' construction industry" said Dr. Kadri. He further said that Dow is dedicated to using science and technology to solve regional challenges. He hoped that mutual collaboration with DCL may pave the way to develop regionally-tailored solutions and to advance towards Dubai Municipality's sustainability development agenda. Engr. Ali Ahmed Elian, Head of Engineering Material Section of DCL made a detailed presentation on "Role of DCL in the journey towards Green Economy" in which he discussed about DM's green building regulations and its importance in sustainability of economy and how DCL compliments it with its activities.
