World Bank says Bangladesh growth won't hit government target

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The World Bank on Sunday said Bangladesh's economy was relatively healthy, but would grow at 6.3 per cent in the current 2011-12 financial year, lower than the official target of 7 per cent, according to dpa. Ellen Goldstein, the World Bank director for Bangladesh, said recent economic growth in Bangladesh was 'quite healthy' given the global recession, eurozone crisis and the oil price hike in the international market. 'Bangladesh will achieve a 6.3 percent gross domestic product in the current fiscal (ending on June 30). The growth has to be considered good enough under the existing global circumstances, â€Å"added Zahid Hussain, of the bank's Dhaka office. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith had targeted 7 percent growth when he announced the national budget for 2011-12 in June last year.
