UAE- One held, wine bottles worth Dh54,000 seized

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Police have foiled an alleged attempt by an Asian trader to sell wine bottles worth Dh54,000. The trader transported the wine bottles using a stolen car to a deserted warehouse in Al Sajja Industrial Area. According to an official at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the ant-organised crime section of the department was tipped off about the illegal activity of the trader who was looking for a buyer for the wine bottles even when he knew the liquor is banned in Sharjah. "On verifying the information, we found out that the suspect had made a deal with a person who wanted to buy the bottles and that he had agreed to hand over them to the buyer at the deserted warehouse in Al Sajja Industrial Area." The warehouse was raided and the 40-year-old suspect arrested. He told the cops that he was working for another trader who had asked him to sell the wine bottles and that he had used a stolen four-wheel drive to transport the bottles to the warehouse before handing them over to the buyer. It was also found out that the suspect was arrested in different cases of bootlegging earlier and deported from the country but he infiltrated back into the country. The suspect is currently detained and will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
