UAE- FNC panel reviews media council's role


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A specialised parliamentary committee set up by the Federal National Council discussed the policy of the National Media Council (NMC) and reviewed its various functions at a meeting held in Dubai on Monday. The committee headed by Dr Mona Juma Al Bahr heard presentations made by the NMC officials on its role in promoting the state legislation to regulate media work and unify media laws in the UAE. The representatives also explained the NMC's role in the areas of nationalisation of media jobs, training, censorship and the major problems facing the Council in the process of unifying media laws. The National Media Council has a number of functions, including nationwide media licensing of individuals and institutions, monitoring of media content printed or broadcast from home and abroad, research and media studies and development of local cadre in the field of media.
