Iran to produce 14m tons of wheat this year


(MENAFN) The Iranian ministry of agriculture announced that during the current calendar year, the country's production of wheat is expected to reach 14 million tons, reported Tehran Times. The ministry added that last year, Iran's average wheat output was also at 14 million tons, ranking the country as the world's 12-biggest wheat producer. On the other hand, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the European Union (EU) is ranked as the world's biggest wheat producer, with 138 million tons produced in 2011, followed by China, with 117.9 million tons. It is worth noting that India's production of 86.9 million tons ranked the country at the third place, whereas the US came fourth, with its 2011's output at 54.4 million tons.
