Iran seeks to import potable water from Tajikistan

(MENAFN) Iranian Energy Minister, Majid Namjou, stated that his country seeks to acquire around 1 billion cubic meters of potable water from Tajikistan, reported Tehran Times. Namjou said that the two countries along with Afghanistan plan to establish a joint water and electricity corridor, adding that the 3 countries will establish a 500KV transmission line to link their national electricity grids. Moreover, Tehran might help Tajikistan in establishing a petroleum refinery to meet the country's needs. It is worth noting that Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a highway from Iran to Afghanistan and Tajikistan, then to China.
