Arab League, WB sign grant deal on Arab youth empowerment

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Arab League and World Bank (WB) have hammered out a grant agreement purposed to buttress efforts to spur Arab youth to be more active in public life. The deal was signed by Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League for Social Affairs Sima Bahouth and WB Country Manager for Egypt, Yemen and Djibouti David Craig. Speaking to reporters, Bahouth said the grant worth USD 250,000 as a first payment is mainly intended to encourage and empower Arab youth by means of boosting regional programs for youth and the research capabilities of the Arab Youth Observatory. Arab youth empowerment is a top priority for the World Bank following the "Arab Spring" revolutions. For his part, Craig said the grant would mainly go to Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, and would be used in boosting Arab youth empowerment. He added that the Arab Youth Observatory would be a major institution for the WB to carry out youth research in the region.
