Fiat plans to stop car sales to Iran

(MENAFN) Fiat SpA announced that due to the western sanctions on Iran, the Italian carmaker will stop selling vehicles to the Islamic Republic very soon, reported The Peninsula. The firm said that its sales to Iran were unimportant in terms of numbers, adding that the bulk of the vehicles sold were Iveco-branded buses and trucks, and no cars were produced in Iran. Furthermore, anything the carmaker sold to Tehran was conforming to UN, EU and Italian laws, which need certification of the buyer. It is worth noting that the anti-nuclear lobby group United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is increasing pressure on the auto industry worldwide to stop business dealings with Iran, saying that the global auto industry represents the second-largest source of foreign currency for Iran and a source of foreign technology.
