Abu Dhabi Police warn slow drivers

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Abu Dhabi Police reported 128 traffic violations last year of motorists driving below the minimum speed limit set on roads in the emirate. Brigadier Hussain Al Harthi, Director of the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at the Abu Dhabi Police, said one of the reasons that leads to accidents is motorists driving too slowly, which puts the lives of others at risk. Explaining, Brig. Al Harthi said driving too slow can obstruct the traffic flow and clog up the road. The fine for driving below the minimum speed limit is Dh200. Al Harthi appealed to motorists, as part of the awareness campaign themed 'For How Long?' or 'Until When?', launched by the Ministry of Interior, to abide by the rules of the road to reduce traffic collisions. He called upon the public to stick to the legal speed limit and to focus while at the wheel to ensure lane discipline. "Motorists have got to follow the guiding traffic signboards and light signs and must maintain a safe following distance from the car ahead," he said, advising motorists to slow down when they come close to signalised junctions, pointing out that high speed doubles the occurrence of car crashes.
