(MENAFN) Bahrain's crude oil output rose by 33 percent in 2011, boosted by Tatweer Petroleum's operations, Trade Arabia reported.

This was unveiled by Bahraini Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza, who was speaking at the launch of the third edition of The Oil and Gas Year Book Bahrain 2012.

Tatweer Petroleum is a joint venture between nogaholding, Occidental Petroleum Corporation and Mubadala Development Company.

Mirza also said that the Gulf island kingdom's production started at four barrels a day (bpd) and peaked in the mid-1970s at about 75,000 (bpd).

He added that by the year 2000, crude output fell to 30,000 barrels. However, this was boosted again by Tatweer Petroleum to 45,000 bpd, and is on course to achieve the 100,000 bpd target within five years.

Mirza also unveiled plans to replace a pipeline, which transports 230,000 bpd of crude oil from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain's refinery, with a new pipeline with a capacity to import 350,000 bpd.
