(MENAFN Press) Working together to delivery world-class Broadband for Qatar

Doha, Qatar

Qtel signed an agreement to extend its contract with Huawei that sees the two companies continue to work together on the "Fibre to the Home" programme, delivering advanced Broadband services to Qatar.

The agreement was signed by Waleed Al Sayed, COO of Qtel Qatar and Xiao Ning, Huawei Country Manager for Qatar in a signing ceremony held earlier today.

This extended contract will see both companies expand their relationship to meet customer demand for this much demanded service.

This latest agreement will see Qtel's fibre broadband roll- out extended to cover an additional 90,000 connections, which will bring the broadband penetration close to 100% of the households and business in Qatar.

Qtel Fibre will provide a host of benefits for the people of Qatar as well as making an important contribution to the educational, commercial and governmental sectors.

Waleed Al Sayed, COO of Qtel Qatar said: "It is important strategic alliance that will contribute to the growth and development of Qatar, making it one of the best-connected countries in the world. The role out of these additional 90,000 connections has already begun. We have already laid fibre passing 126,000 homes, have connected 30,000 homes to the fibre network and 10,000 households are already enjoying the fibre services".

Xiao Ning, Huawei Country Manager for Qatar said "Huawei welcomes this opportunity to continue this alliance with Qtel and to support Qtel in the development of advanced services to the country of Qatar. We are also delighted that Qtel have shown their continued trust in the relationship with Huawei".

The robust bandwidth capacity of fibre will deliver a much higher quality of online experience for customers in Qatar, while ensuring that the infrastructure is capable of supporting the next generation of services and applications.

It is the largest infrastructure project of its kind to be implemented by Qtel, with internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps, and will change the way people experience online education and entertainment.

Advanced bandwidth capacity will support new business applications as they benefit from some of the fastest internet speeds in the region.

The Qtel Fibre project is a one billion QR project approved by the Board and officially launched by HE Sh. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saoud Al Thani in January of this year.

The project supports the wider Vision 2030 for Qatar, which aims to transform Qatar into an advanced country capable of sustaining its own development and providing a high standard of living for all its people and generations to come.
