Jordan- 'Al Faris' competition opens


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Wednesday inaugurated the second International Horseback Archery Competition (Al Faris). Organised by the Public Security Department (PSD) for the second consecutive year, the competition celebrates the Kingdom's Independence Day, marked on May 25. During the opening ceremony, attended by HRH Prince Hashem, acting PSD Director Major General Mohammad Raqqad said the competition was the "first" of its kind in the region and that participants from around the globe were taking part in many activities, such as displaying different fighting methods of ancient civilisations. "Exercises featured in the competition improve the skills of PSD personnel and allow them to benefit from the experience of participants from other countries," Raqqad highlighted. Several ambassadors, military attachés, deputies, and high-ranking security and military officials attended the event. Spain, Brazil, Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, New Zealand, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the US, Iran, China, Japan and South Africa are taking part in the contest. The competition is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
