(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) Radio Israel said here Tuesday that Israel has agreed to allow Egypt transport the Qatari fuel shipment still in reservoirs in the port of Suez to the Gaza strip for operating the power generation sole power plant in the strip.

Israeli Army Minister Ehud Barack and Environment Protection Minister Gilad Erdan have approved to allow Egypt transport 30 million litres of Qatari gas oil to the Gaza Strip to operate the power plant there.

Radio Israel quoted the Israeli Environment Protection Minister as saying,'' The Egyptian request made recently has already been signed to allow Qatari fuel enter into the Gaza Strip adding that the approval came in full agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who also decided to approve the Egyptian request"".

The State of Qatar has agreed several months ago to supply the Gaza Strip, with 30 million liters of industrial fuel to operate the sole power plant in Gaza for two months.

For its part, the Gaza Energy and Natural Resources Authority had earlier announced that deliberate delays by the Egyptian authorities, as well as lack of coordination between Egyptian intelligence services and Egyptian General Petroleum, have held up the arrival of a shipment of Qatari fuel to Gaza.

The Authority said in a statement issued recently that it has made every effort and completed all required actions in order to receive the Qatari fuel shipment, which is still in reservoirs in the port of Suez. They noted that for the past four months the only power plant in Gaza has been operating with only one of its four generators because of a lack of fuel supplies.

It considered that the Israeli authorities insistence, with Egypt s approval, that the fuel enter Gaza through the Awja crossing has caused unacceptable delays in the arrival of this Arabic aid to Gaza, and enables the Zionist entity to blackmail and control the Palestinian people, as transportation costs increase if fuel must come through the Awja crossing.
