UAE- Building violations under scanner 

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Contractors violating health and safety standards will face new roadblocks to completing their projects, says the Health and Safety Environment (HSE) division of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City.

To ensure compliance with municipality requirements, the HSE has launched an inspection and monitoring campaign targeting Abu Dhabi's 7,427 construction sites.

"The municipality put into practice a new system to monitor and follow up contractors and consultancy offices' compliance with the HSE plan, considering it a prerequisite for completing the licensing procedures and projects implementation," said Salah Awad Al Sarraj, acting executive director of the municipality's town planning sector.

"In this regard, a programme has been developed to suspend the online services of companies violating the HSE standards in the building and construction sites using Building Permits Programme (CDP) and Mobile Inspection Management System (MIMS)," he said, explaining that a project's transactions on CDP will be suspended until contractors rectify violations and pay the associated fines.

The policy of periodic monitoring will safeguard worksites at every phase of construction, he added, by making it impossible to 'clear a phase' without meeting HSE requirements.

The HSE will deploy inspection teams to regularly monitor construction sites in Abu Dhabi. The launch of the initiative has been accompanied by an awareness and guidance campaign targeting construction workers, including an illustrated booklet published in Arabic and six other languages about unsafe practices and related risks.
