Jordan- Judeh discusses region with EU, US officials

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Tuesday discussed with Catherine Ashton, EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, bilateral relations and the latest regional developments. Talks between the two officials tackled Jordan's efforts to push the Middle East peace process forward and the latest developments in Syria, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The two sides stressed the need to stop bloodshed in Syria and support Arab League-UN envoy Kofi Annan to enable him entirely implement his mission. Ashton, who will leave for Iraq to head 5+1 Group's meeting with Iran over the latter's nuclear programme, briefed Judeh on European efforts to resume negotiations with Tehran to find a solution to the issue. Ashton also stressed that the EU will continue its support, cooperation and coordination with Jordan over issues of mutual concern. Also yesterday, Judeh discussed with US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy R. Sherman bilateral ties, the peace process in the Middle East and the latest regional developments, Petra reported. Judeh reviewed Jordan's efforts to push the peace process forward, noting that establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital lies at the heart of the Kingdom's interests. The two sides, who stressed the need to maintain consultations and coordination over several issues, also highlighted the need to contain the situation in Syria and support Annan's mission in the Arab state.
