Jordan- Tafileh representatives highlight investment potentials

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Members of the Tafileh Chamber of Commerce on Sunday highlighted investment potentials as well as the needs for development projects in Tafileh, in light of higher poverty and unemployment rates in the governorate. During a meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Chamber President Aref Marayat said Tafileh has several minerals, such as phosphate, copper and cement, which can be mined. He also underscored tourist and archeological sites that can attract investors and provide jobs for young Jordanians. During the meeting, he also highlighted the results of the privatisation of national mining companies, indicating that the step had drawbacks, adversely impacting the local communities. Also, the marginalising of remote areas, including Tafileh, worsened the situation, he noted. At the meeting, USAID delegates said the agency will work to find out the priorities and the needs of the governorate, in terms of development projects, stressing the agency's role to arrive at development programmes to be carried out in the different governorates.
