(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh on Friday lauded Jordan's continued support for the Palestinian people living under Israeli occupation.
During a meeting with members of a delegation accompanying Jordan's aid convoy to the coastal enclave, Haniyeh noted that the Kingdom's support for the Palestinians helps them stand firm against Israel's occupation and its inhuman practices, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Haniyeh, who hosted a lunch banquet for the 100 participants in "Ansar 2", also said that Palestine is not only for the Palestinians but for all Arabs and Muslims, adding that the Palestinian peoples' suffering has increased their insistence and determination to end the Israeli occupation.
A Royal Jordanian private jet, which was hired by activists and members of political parties and professional associations, arrived in Gaza Strip last Friday, carrying in-kind assistance to Gazans the besieged enclave.
Former Jordan Engineers Association president Wael Saqqa, head of the committee in charge of the "Ansar 2" aid convoy, told The Jordan Times last week that the aid includes 250,000 worth of assistance, mainly food and medicine.
"This is a very important step showing our solidarity with the people in Gaza. We are hoping that similar flights will be deployed soon as we have started gathering more donations from individuals and institutions for Gaza," Saqqa said at the time.
"We are also carrying a message with us to the people there that they are not alone. We hope through this move to cooperate with counterparts in Gaza in supporting small- and medium-business projects," he added.
The main objective of the flight, according to Saqqa, was to reach out to Palestinians living in the besieged enclave and to empower them to start their own businesses.
He expressed hope that the convoy would encourage others to follow suit and help break the blockade imposed by Israel since 2007.
