Air India loses USD34m on pilots' strike

(MENAFN) Air India stated that it lost USD34 million during the past ten days due to the pilots' strike, reported Gulf News. The carrier added that on a daily basis, its losses reached USD2.36 million, resulting from ticket cancellations, unused labor and the grounding of 9 of its 17 Boeing-777 fleet. It said that the strike also affected its low-cost international wing, Air India Express, as flight cancellations disrupted holiday and other travel plans of hundreds of people. It is worth noting that the striking pilots demand exclusive flying right on Boeing 787 planes, payment of arrears from 2007 onwards, travel in first class when not working and the right to be promoted as commanders within 6 years.
