Kuwait- MP slams govt for no action on PASS chief over Swiss 'claims'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) MP Abdulrahman Al-Anjari has slammed the government for its continued silence on the decision of its Swiss counterpart to freeze the account of the director general of the Public Authority for Social Security (PASS), reports Al-Kuwaitiah daily. Al-Anjari pointed out the authority controls contributions worth $45 billion from the employees and pensioners. He warned putting such a large amount of money under the control of one person raises certain questions, while the decision to freeze the director general's account should be a source of concern. He said the Swiss government would not have taken this step if it has no information that prompted such a precautionary measure - an action carried out only in exceptional cases. According to the lawmaker, the most basic step that the government should have taken was to suspend the director general until completion of investigations into the issue. He asserted this move will definitely protect the welfare of citizens, particularly the pension of retirees, in case the allegation is true. Meanwhile, the Fatwa and Legislation Department has advised the Minister of Housing Affairs and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Shueib Al-Muweizri not to form a committee for investigating the alleged violations by Director General of Loan and Savings Bank Salah Al-Mudhaf, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a letter sent by the Head of the Department Advisor Faisal Al-Sarawi to Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, the department reasoned that they should wait until conclusion of investigations by the Public Prosecution before setting up the committee.
